The Pelham High School boys hockey team did not have to look far to find its new head coach.
Mike Cambria, who previously was Pelham’s assistant coach for seven years under Ed Witz, was appointed as the Pelicans’ new head coach in June by the Pelham Board of Education. Witz retired as Pelham’s head coach after 38 years with 513 victories and New York State Public High School Athletic Association Division 2 titles in 2017 and 2022.
“He’s built it pretty much from the ground up, and he’s been there for 38 years,” said Cambria. “For him to hand over the keys and trust me to keep it going in the right direction means a lot to me, and I’m pretty excited for the opportunity.”
Witz hoped Cambria would get the job and said Cambria has played an integral part in the program’s success.
