The best women’s ice hockey players in the world from 10 different nations will converge in Utica for the International Ice Hockey Federation Women’s World Championships April 3-14. The entire tournament will air on the NHL Network in the U.S. and TSN in Canada.
It is the fifth time the U.S. has hosted the event and the first time since 2017 when it was held in Plymouth, Mich. The only other time it was hosted in New York was Lake Placid in 1994.
All 29 contests (preliminary round games, quarterfinals, semifinals and the medal games) will be played at Adirondack Bank Center in Utica, which has undergone renovations and seats a little more than 3,800 spectators, said Jon Lundin, communications director for the Adirondack Sports Council. Each team will practice at the Utica University Nexus Center.
“Hosting this event is an opportunity for us to show everything Utica has to offer,” Mohawk Valley Garden president Robert Esche said. “We plan to make it a 12-day spectacle unlike anything the area has seen, from showcasing local businesses and event spaces, to the fan zone festivities surrounding the building, through the games inside the Adirondack Bank Center. Our goal is to make this the best Women’s World Championship to date, and to show the world how strong the hockey community is in Utica.”
